Kirun is an app developed by Saifullah Ahad that helps children and new Muslims practice salah. The phone stands beside the prayer mat and watches with its camera while the person prays; afterwards it shows what it saw: each rak'ah, bow, prostration and sitting.
Each camera picture is read on the phone by an on-device pose model, which finds where the body is (head, shoulders, hips, knees and ankles). The picture is then thrown away at once. Kirun never saves a photo or video, never sends one anywhere and never shows one to anyone. During a practice it keeps only a few numbers about the body's position, for example how far the head is below the hips; when the practice ends it keeps only the result. The camera preview on the setup screen is shown live and is not recorded.
The first names or nicknames and colors you give each person, the result of each practice (which prayer, when, how many rak'ahs were seen and any notes), your settings and, if you set one, the App PIN are kept in the app's private storage on your phone. The App PIN is stored only as a salted one-way hash. There is no account, no developer server, no advertising, no analytics and no crash reporting, and none of this information is sent to the developer or anyone else.
The Android app declares no internet or network-state permission, so it cannot send or receive data over a network. The pose model comes from Google's MediaPipe library, which is built to send usage statistics to Google (such as the app's name and version and the phone's model and country). Kirun removes that reporting code when the app is built and has no internet permission, so these statistics are never sent.
While the practice screen is open, the app reads the phone's gravity sensor to know which way is up and whether the phone moved. These readings are used on the phone in real time and are not stored or shared.
You can protect the parent corner with an App PIN and, if you choose, your phone's own fingerprint or face unlock. The unlock is handled by Android: Kirun never receives fingerprint or face data, only whether unlocking succeeded.
Kirun is made for children to use with a parent or other adult. It does not collect personal information from children or anyone else: names stay on the phone, there are no advertisements, and no data leaves the device. The parent corner, where records can be deleted, can be protected with an App PIN.
Your records stay on your phone until you delete a person (which also deletes their practice), use Delete everything, clear the app's storage or uninstall the app. Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer of the app's data are turned off.
The About Developer page has links that open your browser, Google Play or another app by the same developer, and a feedback button that opens an email draft in your email app for you to review and send. No names or practice results are attached. If you send an email, the developer receives the message and your address and uses them only to reply. These apps and services apply their own privacy policies.
This policy may change if the app's data handling changes. The effective date identifies the current version.
