Privacy Policy — SeeWell
SeeWell is a free vision screening and eye care app. It stores your check results and family profiles on your phone. Checks work by touch without an internet connection. Optional voice answers use your phone's speech service, which may send your voice to Google for recognition. No account is required. SeeWell does not send your saved records or profiles to its own server; you can choose to share a summary through Android's share sheet or show it as a QR code.
1) Who we are
SeeWell is developed and maintained by Saifullah Ahad ("we", "us", "our"), an independent software developer based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Portfolio and contact: https://saifullah.ai
2) What this policy covers
This Privacy Policy describes what information SeeWell collects, how it uses that information, and the choices you have when you use the app. SeeWell is a personal vision screening and eye wellness tool, not a medical device.
3) Information stored locally on your device
SeeWell stores your check results, profiles and settings locally on your device only. SeeWell does not upload these records to any server or cloud service. A summary leaves your phone only when you share it yourself through Android's share sheet, or show it as a QR code for someone to scan; whoever receives it controls that copy. The only other thing that can leave your phone is your voice, if you turn on Answer by voice (see section 5).
The following categories of information are stored locally on your device:
- Vision check results: Observations and recorded steps for completed checks (Symbol size, Reading, Color dots, Line pattern, Faded letters, Grid, Red-green, and Child shapes checks). Records include the eye checked, what you wore (glasses, contact lenses, or nothing), how the screen size was set, the distance used (a number in centimeters, and whether the front camera measured it or it was set by arm's length), your answer to the urgent warning signs question, whether a helper guided the check, and the reason if a check could not be done. Stored in a local Room/SQLite database on your device. A visit summary can include these results if you choose to share it through Android's share sheet.
- Family profiles: A name or nickname and optional age in years that you choose to enter. Used to keep separate results, care plans, and activity history for different people using this phone. Everyone who can open the app on this phone can see these local profiles. Profiles stay on your device by default; a visit summary can include the selected person's name if you choose to share it through Android's share sheet. Earlier versions stored a single profile (with optional glasses preferences and known eye conditions); details entered in earlier versions stay only on your phone.
- Care plans: Where you plan to get care, a phone number you type, the appointment date and time, questions you want to ask, any barrier you choose, and reminder times. Stored in your local database. A visit summary can include the care contact, phone number, appointment, and question if you choose to share it through Android's share sheet.
- Screen time data: Only if you switch screen time tracking on: how long the screen was on each day and how many times it was turned on, measured locally on your phone. It does not record which apps you use or what you view.
- Comfort breaks and habits: Completion timestamps and streak counts for 20-20-20 breaks and eye exercises. Stored locally on your device.
- App preferences: Theme (light or dark), screen size match and how it was set, reminder settings, language selection (English or Bangla), the optional chime sound at the end of a break, and check settings such as camera or arm-length distance and help with reading. Stored in local DataStore on your device.
- Eye-health answers and glasses details: For each person, the answers you give about diabetes, high blood pressure, glaucoma in the family, the last eye exam and recent eye surgery, and their glasses details (type, age and damage). Stored in local DataStore on your device.
SeeWell stores the profile and care-plan details you choose to enter, including a clinic or health worker's phone number. It does not automatically collect contact details, location, financial information or advertising identifiers. SeeWell itself has no INTERNET permission. Your records leave your phone only if you choose to share a summary or show its QR code. Optional voice answers are handled separately by your phone's speech service (section 5).
4) How we use information
- Display your results, care plans, and a dated list of past checks for each eye within the app.
- Show plain next steps and guidance based on what you saw and your answers.
- Guide you to the right distance from the screen before a check, using the front camera only in your phone's memory.
- Deliver 20-20-20 screen break reminders and care follow-up alerts that you configure.
- Draw screening symbols closer to their intended physical size after you match your screen with a bank card or ruler.
- Remember your app preferences and selected language (English or Bangla) across sessions.
We use your information only to operate the features on your device. SeeWell does not use your records for advertising or profiling. SeeWell itself has no INTERNET permission. Your records leave your phone only if you choose to share a summary or show its QR code. Optional voice answers are handled separately by your phone's speech service (section 5).
5) Languages, spoken instructions and voice answers
SeeWell supports English and Bangla. Spoken instructions use an existing offline text-to-speech voice already installed on your device for that language. The app never speaks test targets or answers aloud. Spoken instructions record and send no audio.
Voice answers. Answer by voice is optional and starts off. If you turn it on, SeeWell first shows a notice and asks for your OK, and only then asks for microphone permission. You can then say left, right, up or down in supported symbol checks. SeeWell uses your phone's speech service to recognize your words. On supported phones an installed language can be recognized on the device. Otherwise the speech service may send your voice to Google. SeeWell does not save audio recordings, and does not save the recognized words in your history or results. The speech service handles its processing under its own privacy terms. You can keep using taps and swipes, and you can turn voice answers off at any time.
6) Third-party services, SDKs, and device hardware
The only outside service involved is your phone's speech service, and only if you turn on Answer by voice (section 5). It is part of your phone, not part of SeeWell, and works under its own privacy terms.
SeeWell does not include advertising SDKs or crash-reporting services that send data off your device. The bundled camera library includes diagnostic usage logging components. SeeWell has no INTERNET permission, so the app cannot send those events or camera frames off your device. Voice answers do not add any software library to SeeWell.
The following software components run entirely on your device:
- Camera (CameraX and Google MediaPipe Face Landmarker): Before a check, SeeWell can use the front camera to measure how far your face is from the screen. The live picture appears only on your own screen. Each frame is examined in your phone's memory by the bundled face model and then discarded: frames are never saved, never written to storage or logs, and never sent anywhere. Only the measured distance is kept, with that check's result on your phone. The camera is optional: if you do not allow it, SeeWell uses arm's length instead. Versions up to 1.0.2 used Google's on-device ML Kit Face Detection for the same purpose, in the same way. A saved result notes whether the distance was measured with the camera or set with the arm-length guide.
- Room / SQLite (AndroidX): Local database library storing all screening records, profiles, and care plans on-device only.
- WorkManager (AndroidX): Plans local notifications for 20-20-20 break reminders and care follow-ups. All scheduling stays on the device.
- DataStore Preferences (AndroidX): Stores app preferences locally on your device.
7) Permissions and why we need them
8) Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell or rent your information, and SeeWell does not send your saved records or profiles to us or to any third party.
All records remain on your device. When you tap "Share" on a summary, Android's system share sheet sends that plain-text summary to the recipient or app you choose. A visit summary can also be shown on screen as a QR code for someone to scan; showing it sends nothing. If you turn on Answer by voice, your phone's speech service may send your voice to Google to recognize your answers; SeeWell does not receive or keep that audio. Nothing else leaves your device.
9) Data retention, backup, and deletion
No cloud backup: Android backup and device-to-device transfer are explicitly disabled for SeeWell's data. Your health records are never copied to Google Drive or cloud backups. If you switch devices, records do not transfer automatically.
Your controls:
- You can delete individual check results from the history list within the app.
- In Profile, tapping "Delete results and activity history" permanently removes all saved results, care plans, comfort break logs, and screen-time history in one step. Removing a person from the family list erases that person's profile, results and saved answers.
- You can delete all app data at any time via Android Settings > Apps > SeeWell > Clear Data.
- Uninstalling SeeWell permanently deletes all locally stored data from your phone.
- SeeWell keeps no audio recording or transcript, so there is nothing of that kind to delete. Your phone's speech service may have its own retention and deletion controls. Turning off Answer by voice, or revoking the microphone permission, stops voice input in SeeWell.
10) Security
Because your records are kept on your phone, they are protected by your device's own security features (such as screen lock, biometrics, and storage encryption). We do not operate external databases or servers that could be accessed or breached. Voice recognition, if you use it, is handled by your phone's speech service.
11) Children's privacy
SeeWell includes a "Child shapes check" designed for an adult (parent or caregiver) to screen a child's vision under adult supervision. The app is not directed to children as independent users. An adult may add a child's name or nickname and age to the family list; these stay on the phone and are never collected by us. All records stay on the phone unless an adult chooses to share a summary or show its QR code.
12) No ads, no monetisation
SeeWell is completely free with no advertisements and no in-app purchases. We do not monetise user data in any way.
13) Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
